eczema bag balm

How do you stop a toddler from picking scabs from eczema?
I've tried all the following: Wet footed pajamas with vasoline on the legs (the doctor's idea) Neosporin, Band Aids, no-band (AIDS doctor idea), Aveeno bath with oatmeal, all Aveeno lotion, Cetaphil, baby oil in the bath, Dove lotion (doctors idea) and now I have taken her old socks, cut them up and used her hair ribbon to fasten the socks for her skin to cover her wounds on his legs after coating them with tons of Bag Balm (which I've spent the last month – uncovered). I hope that the old socks that cover her skin will stop her from scratching. Strange thing – she has not had any signs of eczema in over 3 months and when she gets hot or playing in the dirt, she starts scratching like crazy. I rarely bathe her, and when I do, it's a shower, but her skin is horrible afterwards, I saw first and foremost "spotlight bathes" her and wash her hair in the sink. HELP — I am running out of ideas, and it's already 80 degrees outside and she needs to wear shorts, etc.
Unfortunately, as uncomfortable as we all feel it does (and I felt like a monster!) when my son had excema, the doctor told me to clip his nails very short and then putting mittens or gloves hands. Then use medical tape to tape them to her wrist if she is allergic to the adhesive (which she probably will be, since she has excema) so unfortunately, you need to put her in * sigh * a long sleeve shirt and tape them to the shirt really really good. (She can not scratch through the shrouds, and if she manages to get them out, hopefully her nails will be short enough not to do too much damage.) Important Give her a Benadryl to help her sleep through the itch (Remember – excema is an allergic reaction, not just a skin condition.) And then turn up the AC. A larger electric bill may just be worth the comfort and safety of your child. I completely understand your pain and I am * so * sorry. : (Hope this helps.
