Contact dermatitis: This is a form of eczema caused by contact with irritant that can trigger an eczema flare up.
The reactions that you may suffer as a contact dermatitis sufferer may be categorized in one of two ways.
In the first example, irritant contact dermatitis is a condition that comes on very quickly after you have been exposed to a chemical substance which is immediately irritating to the skin.
Approximately 75% of all contact dermatitis cases are irritant contact dermatitis. This is connected with the fact that the condition is one of the most common occupational diseases suffered by employees in many industrialized Western countries. It should be no surprise that those working in heavy industry such as chemical production, iron smelting and the like often suffering from contact dermatitis, although the individual employee has no previous experience or family history of similar problems.
The second type of contact dermatitis is known as the allergen contact dermatitis, which means that the person suffers a delayed reaction to earlier contact with an allergen as Poison Ivy, pollen, etc.
These two variants of contact dermatitis not mutually exclusive. Depending on the strength of a person's immune system, it is very possible to contract both forms of contact dermatitis at the same time, and possibly atopic eczema may also seen.
Xerotic eczema: This is a rare form of eczema caused by dry skin (often seasonal), which has been so dry and cracked, the telltale lesions of eczema begins to develop. This special relationship, which tends to develop in older people, with the main areas expected to be affected by the limbs and torso.
Less common forms of eczema: In addition to the three most common forms of eczema, which is noted above, there are many other lesser known and less common variations of the condition.
These are as follows:
Dyshidrosis: This is a condition that only occurs on palms, soles of your feet and the back of the fingers. This particular variation of eczema is characterized by small bumps known as vesicules and skin cracks, which becomes more itchy during the night than in daytime.
Although it is not common in comparison with atopic or contact eczema, Dyshidrosis is probably the most common hand eczema, an aggravated when the weather gets warmer.
Disc-shaped eczema: Unlike to Dyshidrosis is disc form eczema a condition that is exacerbated during the winter months, identified by red, circular lesions, usually on the lower leg, which can either be too dry or oozing.
Neurodermatitis: This is a condition characterized by itchy lesions of pigmented, thickened eczema which is frequently caused by persistent friction or scratches. The cure for this particular type of eczema is simple – stop scratching and condition generally goes away on its own volition!
Venous eczema: Venous eczema usually occurs in people who have impaired movement. It is a condition often seen in people who are over 50 years old, often appears as a dark, scaly patch of intensely itchy skin in the ankle area.
Although this particular type of eczema is not in itself even dangerous, the condition can sometimes develop into a painful and extremely unpleasant sores on his legs, so if you're in the right age group and find the dark, itchy spots on the skin around your ankles, you should seek medical attention.
