Infantile Serborrhoeic eczema: An Overview

Your child may be a case of infantile seborrhoeic eczema when he's crusty, red or scaly stains all over his body. When this becomes severe that the skin can actually break, grow rough and begins to soften. Although it does not look pleasant, it is helpful to know that in certainly it is not contagious. When symptoms are only limited to the scalp, it is known as cradle cap.

This condition afflicts babies under 1 year old. A surprising one in five children will develop this condition at one time or another in their lives. This may also occur in 1 in 5 older children and 1 in 12 adults also. But although the cases occur in older children and adults are not the same as infantile seborrhoeic eczema, these cases have originated from earlier cases that arose when the sufferer was a child.

Some say that the infant seborrhoeic eczema caused by overactive sebaceous glands (producing oil on the skin). There are other forms that may occur. These reasons include asthma, hay fever, genetics or allergy to something that your skin comes into contact with.

If your child develops symptoms of dry and scaly skin, consult a pediatrician as soon as possible. Early and proper diagnosis can lead to proper treatment. However, it is likely that the skin of the child will always be sensitive and prone to flare ups. For this reason it is important to take special care of the skin with a good cleansing and moisturizing routine.

For cradle cap, may try rubbing a small amount of warm olive oil mixed with a few drops kæmpenatlysolie oil on the baby's cradle cap to loosen up. You should use this mixture to your baby's head before bedtime. Let the suck into her skin before you wash it in the morning with a mild baby shampoo. Some other topical supplements that can help your baby include Aloe vera and borage oil.

If you are breastfeeding, and if your child is having infantile seborrhoeic eczema at the same time, so you must change your diet. Try to consume more biotin from liver and eggs. You should also start taking Evening Primrose Oil, emu oil or food supplements known to help with eczema skin. In addition, your baby be allergic to some of the foods in your diet such as milk, wheat and eggs. As a consequence, avoid these foods triggers while you are breastfeeding your baby.
